Another butterfly blog post

Did you know…

  • butterflies lay their eggs one at a time on milkweed leaves?
  • eggs stay there for four days before the caterpillar comes out?
  • When the caterpillar comes out,it is so small that you can’t even see its stripes?
  • Baby caterpillar. So small you can't see its stripes!

  • Caterpillars shed their skin five times before turning into chrysalises?
  • In the time that they’re growing from teeny tiny to huge, they can completely obliterate a newer milkweed plant?
  • monarch caterpillars are a great breakfast and lunch companion for the kids?
  • 2 weeks is a very very long time to care for something that isn’t a friend or family member and I cannot wait for these guys to hit their next milestone so I can be done with feeding them?

This is what I’ve learned in the past week.  What random facts do you know about monarchs?
